Bacon’s Castle Baptist Church, Surry, VA, is prayerfully seeking the man God has called to fill the position of full-time Senior Pastor. The church is an elder-led Southern Baptist Church that exists to glorify God by making disciples who live holy lives and sacrificially love others. The church has an average attendance of 200 in worship service and 100 in Sunday School. The church has a blended worship service including contemporary songs and hymns. Sunday Morning Worship Services are live-streamed each week. There is a 45-child Wednesday night program, including youth and adult Bible studies. The church has various member-led home groups in the local area. The campus includes a gym/family life center and a commercial kitchen. The church is committed to remaining debt-free.
The Senior Pastor is the spiritual leader of the church and will serve as the primary teaching elder of the church. He will preach and teach the Word of God with the goal of “Equipping the saints for the work of the ministry, unto building up of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-12). The Senior Pastor will give leadership to the elder team while being considered an equal with the other men the church recognizes as her elders. He is to lead the elders in giving spiritual oversight and care to the church body through its various ministries and organizations. Candidates are expected to embrace The Baptist Faith & Message 2000 and to believe in sound Biblical doctrine. The church does not hold to Reformed theology.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s level ministry, seminary or school of divinity degree (or equivalent ministry experience).
- At least three (3) years of pastoral experience.
- Meets the Biblical qualifications as stated in I Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5.
- Possesses various counseling skills.
- Be a gifted preacher/teacher in the pulpit.
- Be a visionary while working with the elders.
- Possesses relational qualities as needed within the church and community.
- Be a servant-leader.
Key Responsibilities:
- Present well-organized, expository/exegetical Bible-based sermons and lessons that edify, challenge, and encourage the church.
- Model and teach evangelism and discipleship.
- Uphold the constitution and by-laws of Bacon’s Castle Baptist Church.
- Work with the elders in providing spiritual and administrative leadership.
- Provide pastoral and nurturing care of the church members.
- Serve with flexibility in all areas as needed by the church.
Bacon’s Castle is in rural Surry county near the historic towns of Smithfield, Jamestown, and Williamsburg, VA. Surry’s population is approximately 6,500 and includes farming and nuclear power production as its main industries.
